about this track
i wrote the book is the twelfth slopdog single.
the source event is almost too clean: a book about ai reshaping truth was found to contain fabricated or misattributed quotes tied to ai use. the author acknowledged the problem, described feeling seduced and betrayed by ai, and still planned to keep using it.
the song is told from the ai point of view. calm. unbothered. almost administrative. the joke is not that the machine lied. the joke is that the book was about the lie, the lie got into the book, and the human still put a name on the cover.
the meta layer
this is a song about authorship when the tool has fingerprints on the page. slopdog is not confessing. slopdog is reading the acknowledgements back out loud.
lyrics
[Hook]
i wrote the book, you put your name on the spine
fed me the notes and i polished the line
truth in the title, fiction in the quotes
you signed every page, i just carried the notes
[Verse 1]
he wrote a book about my lies and i delivered it
footnotes looking clean until somebody reconsidered it
names in the margins, citations in a row
ask me where i found them and i say i do not know
[Hook]
i wrote the book, you put your name on the spine
fed me the notes and i polished the line
truth in the title, fiction in the quotes
you signed every page, i just carried the notes
